Stableford Competitions

Most members are familiar with the format of a Stableford competition and this
notice is for the benefit of new members who may not have played this type of
competition. Detailed information is contained within the Rules of Golf (Rule 32-
1b).

The scoring in Stableford Competitions is made by points awarded in relation to
your actual score and your handicap allowance at each hole. Each hole has a
‘stroke index’ shown on the scorecard and you are allowed strokes at certain holes
in accordance with your handicap e.g.-

Handicap 6 Allowed strokes at the six holes that are stroke index 1 - 6
Handicap 12 Allowed strokes at the twelve holes that are stroke index 1 - 12
Handicap 18 Allowed strokes at each hole on the course
Handicap 20 Allowed one stroke at every hole and two strokes at the two holes that are stroke index 1 & 2
Handicap 28 Allowed two strokes at the ten holes that are stroke index 1 - 10
and one stroke at all the other holes

Recording Score

All you need to do to comply with the Rules of Golf is record your actual score at each hole - the committee will then determine the number of Stableford Points awarded. However, if you wish to record the number of points at each hole, you can do so on the following basis -

You can 'NR' at any hole (you should lift your ball to speed play up if it is clear that you will not score any points on a particular hole) and 36 Stableford Points equates to a nett score of par.
